Cable and Wireless HKT Foundation (previously known as the
Hongkong Telecom Foundation) was et up in 1990 and aims to
provide support to the community through sponsorship of
worthy educational initiatives. The purpose of the
Foundation is to provide support for educational initiative
to the benefit of Hong Kong and communities in China.
Sponsorship of the "Go! Sport Programme" with the
Hong Kong Sports Development Board is providing over a
period of six years a much-needed impetus to healthy
lifestyle, sports education and skills development of young
people in Hong Kong
The
language capability of Hong Kong's people is an essential
factor for the success of Hong Kong as an international
business centre. To encourage the development and learning
of these skills, the foundation has sponsored the popular
Radio Television Hong Kong "Putonghua TV Series"
on learning Putonghua, for a period of six years and the
1999 new peoduction "Learning English" series.
The
foundation also supports special education for the disabled
with funding to the Lutheran School for the Deaf and The
Hong Kong Society for the Deaf, for the provision of
essential teaching aids, and to the Ebenezer School &
Home for the Blind, to provide a computer network system for
their new school premises.
In
recent years, the foundation has extended its sponsorship to
the communities in China, signing an educational development
agreement with the State Education Commission of China to
donate HK$3 million to help provide better educational
facilities for young students in more remote parts of the
country.
Since
its inception in 1990, the foundation has supported over 220
programmes. Cable and Wireless HKT takes its corporate responsibilities
seriously. Through the Cable and Wireless HKT Foundation,
the company will continue to contribute to well being of the
Hong Kong community. |
